12 Days of Salesforce Winter ’12, Day One

On the first day of Winter ’12 Marc Benioff gave to me, new features and enhanced usability.  That’s right for all of the Salesforce Admins, Developers, Force.com geeks and down-right cloud guru’s, I know you’re as excited as I am about the upcoming Winter ’12 release of Salesforce.  Like a kid waiting for Santa, I stayed up all night reading the release notes, just too excited to sleep.   Immediately, I began planning how we could use the new features both in Riptide’s Salesforce Instance as well as how they will fit into our client’s projects.

So let’s take a look at how these new features will effect your end-users.  Let’s discuss which features will be turned on automatically, which features need to be turned on by Admins, and which features require a request to Salesforce.   At Riptide our first priority is making sure our clients prepare end users for the changes that will be instantly visible when Winter ’12 is released to production instances.  If you’re the Administrator for your Salesforce instance, here are some important features you will want to let your users know about in advance:

  • Dashboard Filters
  • Enhanced Reports Tab
  • Analytics Workbook
  • Enhanced Report Type Selection
  • Improved Dashboard Component Snapshot Posts
  • Reports in Recent Items

Collaboration Cloud

  • Approvals in Chatter
  • Chatter Desktop Enhancement
  • Chatter Mobile Enhancement
  • Customers in Private Chatter Groups

Sales Cloud

  • Enhanced Forecasts
  • Social Contacts in Salesforce
  • Increased Size Limits for On-Demand Email-to-Case
  • Email Services Truncation Removed

Service Cloud

  • Knowledge Versions Pilot (Contact Salesforce)
  • Service Cloud Console List Enhancements
  • CTI 4.0: Multiple Browser Support

Analytics

  • Custom Report Types Enhancement

Now that we know what to prepare our users for, the next step is to begin thinking about how we are going to implement these new features in our Salesforce Instances so we can provide the best user experience. For each of the next 12 Business days we’ll be adding a new blog post that will take a deeper dive into one of the features being released in Winter ’12 including functionality, benefits and use cases.
